Jessica's Philosophy Regarding Birth:

Every pregnant, laboring, birthing woman and her family should be informed of all of their choices, be supported throughout, and be empowered to strive for the best birth possible.

You do deserve a doula.

"If a doula were a drug it would be unethical not to use one."

-Klaus, Kennell, Klaus, The Doula Book

What does a Labor Doula do?

What a doula does varies from individual to individual. For some doulas are a strong foundation that gives strength to a birthing woman and her partner to achieve the birth they want, for others a doula is an extra pair of hands to give physical support through a long or trying labor, and for some a doula is a wealth of knowledge that assists by providing her expertise and training. For me the most important thing a labor doula does is to be aware at all times of their clients needs and to provide individual care to address them.

Why should I hire a Doula?

Statistically mothers with an attending doula present at the birth benefit from:

-a 50% lower chance of having a C-Section
-a decreased need for pain medication or medical intervention by 30-60%
-length of labor shortened by 25%
-a greater success rate of breast-feeding
-a decreased chance of postpartum depression
-a greater chance of expressing satisfaction with their overall birth experience.

Vision for my Doula Clients:

The importance of the journey to motherhood for my family and my clients has allowed me to dream of a better birth for YOU and your family.

·         I envision a birth where you and your partner are respected as parents, not treated as patients

·         Where you can birth your baby into an environment that accounts for the entirety of a new family’s spiritual, emotional, and physical needs

·         Where you will feel safe, secure, loved, and supported

·         Where birth is normal

·         Where intervention is used when necessary or needed and not for policy or convenience

     ·         Where each birth is individual and     special and should be thought of as nothing less.
